Namibia by car. From Rundu to Tsumeb

3 months road trip in Southern Africa,
Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland.
October - December 2014

Average exchange rate: 1 € =  13,75 N$

On the way between Rundu and Tsumeb (325 km) we crossed the "Veterinarian fence". After this fence, you can see a big change between “black” Namibia with its small villages, people and cattle and “white” Namibia with big farms and emptiness.

At that fence (between Rundu and Grootfontein, 250 km) the police has a check point to control who is crossing and what they are carrying. For us it was easy, we just opened the boot. Forbidden to transport fresh meat and plants.

Cheap accommodation on the way Rundu - Tsumeb: We saw few camps along 100 km north of Grootfontein and around Grootfontein and Tsumeb.

Grootfontein and Tsumeb:

Supermarkets, banks, gas stations, etc. Bigger in Tsumeb, with shopping malls. Good place to shop before going to Etosha.

Tsumeb:

Old copper mine, closed in 1994, you can see the big hole, near the old street. And the “Arts Performance Center” (in front of Shoprite), an interesting music project with children.

We did Couchsurfing in Tsumeb, staying with Jens in his house. He invited us to visit a place where the orphan girls live, to share a few hours playing with them.

Hoba Meteorite (20 km south from Grootfontein, on Otavi´s road), we didn´t go, only if interested.
